The Tale of Threesomes....

Having purchased “Dionysus” through BVI Yacht Sales in early 2012,  I must say, it’s fun trying to  live up to the reputation of the Son of mythological Greek Gods.  So far I can honestly report in threesomes:  Three months of ownership;  three dinner parties;  three shroud replacements; three pump replacements, three line compensators;  three times actually sailing and of course three requests from family afar to go on an extended week long vacation.  The boat is far more seaworthy than her Owner, however it gives time for boat and the sailor-in-me to achieve a Vulcan mind meld.  I was warned of having to sink thousands into a boat, of which I am sure can and may be the case, but for now,  any money spent is mostly out of personal gratification which is a choice rather than a necessity.  Seeing as June is almost over,  my daily prayers are thankful for the usual three, family, friends and health, with another dimension called Hurricane guardianship added to the prayer list.  So for me the journey into boat ownership was and continues to be about the people around me that make up a team.  I feel the friends I’ve made at BVI Yacht Sales will be there in the future, as much as they have been there along the journey.

NEW TESTIMONIAL JUST IN...

BVI Yacht Sales did an amazing job in helping me purchase my Beneteau 473 "Two Moons" in the Caribbean, especially given I was new to the whole boat buying game and that I was purchasing from Australia. They fostered a great relationship between the broker, myself and the seller - who I ended up meeting in person. Following the sale, Brian Duff was completely hands on in helping prepare the boat in only a matter of weeks for the Caribbean 1500 as well as an Atlantic crossing.

Brian provided an excellent level of knowledge and helped me out whenever needed, from assisting to get the boat to Bermuda, finding a skipper on short notice and helping organize spare parts when I was on the other side of the world in the Mediterranean.

Karen Simpson was also invaluable as she helped arrange fast and effortless transfer papers, dealing directly with the Australian registration office to get things organized.

After the great adventure, I had no hesitation in having BVI Yacht Sales and Brian in particular take care of the re-sale of my boat.

After the transfer, the sale proceeds were left in escrow with BVI Yacht Sales, for quite a period of time in fact, which reflects the degree of comfort I have in the folks at BVI Yacht Sales. I have no problem endorsing Brian Duff and Karen Simpson of BVI Yacht Sales and fully commend their helpfulness and professionalism.

It's hard to believe that it has been almost a year and a half since I bought Slapshot. As I leave the boat again for the States, I have taken some time to reflect on my decision to buy the boat. You may recall that we had to go through a couple of offers on other boats before you found Slapshot. I remember how excited you were that you had found the boat before it really hit the market. The only problem was the boat was based in Antigua and I was a little hesitant to go there. You reassured me and actually made the trip with me to iron out any nervousness or difficulties. I will never forget the sacrifice in time you made to help this transaction along.

The boat was more than I wanted to spend, but you did a wonderful job of negotiating and in the end, I think I got a more than fair deal. You helped line up all of the necessary surveys, closing details and most importantly found someone to help sail it back to the BVI with me. You helped find a place to keep the boat and generally introduced me to everyone that I would need to know. A big thanks to you for all of this, because without you, it clearly never would have happened. Even now, as a pesky problem arises, you always find time in your busy schedule to help guide me in the right direction.

Now, let's talk about the boat. My goal in this purchase was to have a venue that I could use to become closer to my family. Everyone's schedule today is so hectic that it seems impossible to find time to spend with each other. I figured if we were stuck on a boat for a week at a time, it would finally give us all a better chance to develop the family closeness that is so important. Fortunately, my work allows me to come down for one week per month. With cell phones and wireless, many of my clients don't even know where I am. I am proud that I have not missed a weekly trip every month since I bought the boat. A few trips I will come alone just to get caught up on work and do those never ending boat projects. But most trips will include either my wife, my kids, and my kids families. The times we have had together are indescribable. It has brought us closer than ever and we never are at a loss for things to talk about. Everyone is now "fighting" for their next time slot and have come to realize that this becomes a cheap vacation for them. It has become one of the most significant family events we have ever had.

I had a friend ask me how much all of this costs. I started to figure it out and gave him the direct out-of-pocket expenses for the boat mooring, insurance, misc boat costs and all travel and food expenses. When I figured that I was getting 12 weeks of vacation (with family) for less than $2,000 per week, we were both shocked. There just is not a better way to spend your money - family time, fun, relaxation and an occasional adventure. Slapshot has truly been a life changing experience for all of us and I have not regretted my decision to slightly "overspend" at all.

Me, my family and my few lucky friends tip our Caribs to you and thank you for doing everything you did to make this happen. If you ever need a recommendation, please let me know. I am one of your biggest fans.

41' Lagoon 410 S2, 2006, 4 Cabin, 4 Ensuite head
Well Priced Gen & Air Boat

Asking $255,000

A highly successful design that both sails well, yet offers great living space and panoramic views through the salon. “Big Kahanna” is with a successful and well respected charter company and is unique as being the only x-charter 410 to be fitted with generator and air. Additionally she has Doyle sails new in 2010 and still in great condition as well as power winch to make setting the mainsail a breeze.

Although she appears to be pricier than the 410’s for sale out of other charter companies, when you consider the additional tens of thousands invested in generator, aircon, power winch, dinghy and outboard it will be realized that she actually offers better value than her much more basic sister ships.
